Differences in Fire Sprinkler/Standpipe Systems:

Fire sprinklers work by high heat triggering the system. When a fire starts, the hot air rises and spreads along the ceiling and causes the sprinkler system to activate.

Standpipe systems are a series of pipes which connect to a water supply to hose connections. They are designed to allow manual application of water to a fire by hooking fire hoses to the connections.

No matter which type of fire suppression system is used, both the fire sprinkler system and standpipe systems should be tested and inspected: monthly check to ensure all control valves are in proper positions, quarterly test of the system’s main drain and an annual inspection by a licensed inspector to ensure that they are maintained and in proper working order.

If you experience a problem with your fire suppression system causing a water damage in commercial business, contact SERVPRO of Rockingham and Augusta Counties for assistance.
