Fire Safety in the Workplace

10/19/2020 (Permalink)

Fire Safety in the workplace should be one of the main topics for business owners, no matter what type of business is involved.

A good safety plan should include:

  • An evacuation strategy to make it safer for employees and customers to exit the building.
  • Maintenance of safety equipment: smoke alarms, fire extinguishers and sprinkler systems to include routine inspections.
  • Posting of clear exits and escape routes using a map to show marked exits along with lighted signs or floor lights on main walkways.
  • Proper storage and disposal of hazardous materials informing employees of the use of appropriate protective gear when handling and disposing of hazardous materials.
  • Eliminating electrical hazards such as frayed wiring and overloaded outlets.

Taking the time to implement a safety plan and following it can save lives.
